Early Warning System Workshop

Workshop Outline


The one-and-a-half-day Workshop aims to present particular problems detected from past experiences and to provide suggestions for the facilitation of cooperation between the countries of the river Mura basin (Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia) related to the Early Warning System between the relevant national authorities.


  1. Cooperation between the competent institutions in the area of Early Warning System and cooperation challenges (national and international);
  2. Development and implementation of a hydrological forecasting system;
  3. Timely delivery of emergency information to and among competent institutions;
  4. Coordination of procedures between producers of electricity from hydropower plants and competent institutions within the Early Warning System;
  5. Cross-border exchange of information among competent institutions within the Early Warning system;
  6. National and EU water management related legislation with an emphasis on early warning;
  7. Compatibility of data suitable in the exchange of Early Warning information.

Target audience

Representatives of national authorities responsible for Early Warning System coming from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia (6 per country) with representatives of the European Commission. 

Methodology model

The Workshop is a combination of plenary, lessons learnt and working group sessions. Working groups will address particular Workshop objectives and come up with possible solutions.
